Challenge

Create an intuitive platform for users with limited technological familiarity
Manage real-time data flows under strict technical constraints from IoT sensors
Meet extremely tight development timelines while maintaining high delivery standards
Build a modular architecture easily scalable to support future product growth

My role

As the Main UI/UX Designer, I was fully responsible for the entire design cycle, from initial research to final delivery, without support from a dedicated design team. My role required end-to-end ownership of the product experience, ensuring high standards of quality and user-centricity throughout the project.

I worked in continuous collaboration with the development team to align design solutions with backend constraints, optimizing feasibility without compromising usability. In addition, I conducted in-depth research into agronomic practices to design a UX specifically tailored for non-technical agricultural users, maximizing accessibility and real-world effectiveness.

What was my contribution?

Understanding Real User Needs

User Requirements and Information Hierarchy Analysis:
We conducted interviews and work sessions with farmers to deeply understand their concrete needs, simplifying technical complexity into a clear and intuitive user experience.

User Stories and Journey Mapping:
Specific user journeys were developed to simulate critical scenarios, such as urgent interventions on compromised crops.

Building the Experience Framework

Wireframes and Rapid Prototyping:
Starting from real use cases, we rapidly prototyped flows and tested them with Elaisian's internal agronomy experts and a selected group of “best users” among their clients.

UI Kit Development for Web and Mobile:
A consistent design library was built, with a particular focus on interactive maps and intuitive data visualization through simple yet powerful charts.

Validation and Refinement

Flow Implementation and Continuous Testing:
We integrated directly with the development team, validating every step to ensure optimal performance, usability, and efficiency.

Final Testing and Iteration:
Continuous improvements were made based on hands-on feedback collected during real-world usage sessions.

Final thoughts

Delivering such a complex system within a tight timeframe was both a technical and human challenge — and an incredibly rewarding one. Helping farmers better understand their work by simplifying access to real-time data created real impact, not only on crop yields but also on the growth of their technological skills. As an Italian designer, this project carried an additional layer of personal meaning: contributing to the revival of a struggling agricultural sector felt like a responsibility that extended far beyond design itself.
